Get the weekend started by joining a local author at the Library of Virginia for a book talk, casual conversation, and book signing. Presented by the partnership between the Virginia Shop and James River Writers, the Book Break series offers the opportunity to connect book lovers to new titles and local authors. Reading the book beforehand is encouraged, but never required—just bring your curiosity and a desire to meet new people.

In this multigenerational story of endurance and survival, a supermom and her free-spirited sister are swept into a quest across eastern Europe when their Ukrainian grandmother is lost on a trans-Atlantic flight. The Baba Yaga Mask links past and present through folk art’s rich traditions.

In addition to her career in effective communication for search engine optimization and her role on the James River Writers Advisory Board, Spisak has an extensive background in creative writing—poetry, short fiction, novels, and reference books.
