Culturescape Saturdays | Black History Month Celebration

Join us during Black History Month for a special Saturday event at the Library honoring Black artists and storytellers. This free event will feature a pop-up exhibition highlighting local Black artists, a genealogical show-and-tell presentation, guided tours of the “House to Highway: Reclaiming a Community History” exhibition, resource sharing from community partners, and reference and genealogical assistance.

Schedule of Events:

  • 12-2 p.m. Genealogical show-and-tell presentation with special partner, the Valentine
  • 12-3 p.m. The Stories We Tell, art exhibition opening curated by Black Creatives RVA
  • 12-3 p.m. Self-guided "House to Highway" exhibition tours
  • 12-3 p.m. Tables with community partners
  • 1:30-2 p.m. Gallery talk with "House to Highway" designer, André Johnson

The Culturescape Saturdays series is a new Library of Virginia programming initiative exploring the intersections of art, culture, history and community across Virginia.

This is a free event. Limited free parking is available underneath the Library at 800 East Broad Street. For more information, contact education@lva.virginia.gov.
