Zines from the Pandemic and Beyond: Strategies for Archives

Zines from the Pandemic and Beyond: Strategies for Archives Online

Zine-making took on a renewed urgency with the COVID-19 pandemic, as people sought new ways to share and access specialized health information, agitate for social change, and engage in restorative play. This online session will use zines and other self-published materials from VCU Libraries' Special Collections and Archives to explore how self-publishing strategies in the U.S. have transformed since the late 20th century. Speaker Caroline Meyers, research and collections specialist with VCU’s Special Collections and Archives, will also examine approaches to teaching with zines and discuss the potential of archives as sites of zine production.

This program is part of the MARAC (Mid-Regional Archives Conference) Virginia Chapter’s October Archives Month celebration. Find more information on the Archives Month 2023 webpage and the Zines and Self-Published Materials LibGuide.

Programming assistance is provided by the Friends of the Virginia State Archives, a 501(c)(3) organization. Visit them at friendsofvirginiaarchives.org.
